Traditionally, Andalusian stallions and geldings were allowed manes as long as they would grow, while the mares would have their manes trimmed short. The breed has had a good deal of influence from horses not native to the Iberian peninsula (depending on who was conquering and suchnot over there) but the Arabian had some notable influence while the Moors where in town.
